Ch 2 – Prodigy prince
The banquet was grandiose and people of Sloka Empire celebrated it for two days straight, as if there was no tomorrow, but their celebration was interrupted when a rumor spread that empress had died after prince’s birth. The commotion spread throughout the imperial city, when emperor came to know that the news about empress’s death had already spread, rather than getting angry, he decided to make a public announcement himself.
Later, Emperor Shan addressed to the people and informed them about Prince Dhruv’s birth, the little prince was in his arms when the emperor introduced him to everyone, and finally, he informed them about the unfortunate death of the empress. Everyone was shocked and extremely sad from this, they couldn’t bear the pain of losing their empress, they loved her very much, she used to listen to their problems and relay these grievances on to the emperor, she had opened many schools and hospitals throughout the Sloka Empire, she was a compassionate empress and cared about the well-being of people, especially the kids because she didn’t have her own child.
And now that she was blessed with a prince, why did this happen to her? Many people were mourning after hearing about this but none of them blamed the emperor for hiding this from them, they knew that emperor loved his wife very much, and he hid it just for them, so that they could enjoy the most awaited birth of the prince of Sloka Empire.
Days passed, people slowly started to forget the death of empress, as usual, there was peace in the Sloka Empire.
In a blink of an eye, 5 years had already passed. Now, prince Dhruv was 5 years old and today was his birthday.
In a large hall, a small kid and an old man were sitting on chairs facing each other and few books were stacked on the table in front of them.
“Grandpa Kamsa, we have been studying for six hours straight, it’s my birthday today so please let me go, I want to spend time with father.” Prince Dhruv said in an adorable voice.
“Prince Dhruv, you should not say ‘please’ to this blind old man, you are the prince of our Sloka Empire, someday you will be our savior.” Kamsa said with a smile. Kamsa was blind but Dhruv used to read the books aloud and Kamsa would teach him various subjects, at this time, they were reading the history of Sloka Empire.
“I will become a savior someday, but what do I need to do when I become the savior? You never told me about it.” Dhruv asked in a curious voice. He always heard people saying that he was the prince of Sloka Empire and their savior, but he never understood what he actually needed to do.
“You are too small now, when you grow up, your father will explain you about it.” Kamsa said then stood up from his chair. Dhruv also stood up and immediately rushed forward to give him support, it was a strange scene of a 5 year old kid using his both hands to support an old man.
“Such a kind prince, we are truly blessed.” Kamsa thought in his heart then Dhruv helped him in holding a wooden stick to be used for walking.
“Grandpa, where are you going all of a sudden?” Dhruv asked in a sweet voice.
“Since my prince is bored from learning history, I thought it’s time you receive your birthday present.” Kamsa said then laughed.
“A birthday present for me?” Prince Dhruv was excited, although he used to receive a lot of presents from the people and relatives, but since his mother had died on the day he was born, his father never gave him a birthday present. Dhruv never complained, he was a smart child and under the guidance of Kamsa, who used to teach him history and human psychology, he matured fast and gained wisdom very quickly, far more than the kids of his age.
“Yes, a present from the emperor himself.” Kamsa said then slowly walked outside the room, Dhruv also walked alongside him while giving him support with his both hands. After they came out of the room, a servant quickly rushed to give support to Kamsa. No one was allowed to enter the room of prince except Kamsa, the old maid and the emperor.
Around twenty or more knights immediately started following the two as they walked towards the palace hall.
“But, father has never given me a birthday present, why today?” Dhruv asked with a serious look on his face.
Kamsa noticed the serious look on the prince’s face and said: “That’s because your father has been preparing this gift for you since the day you were born in this world. Now you are five years old, everyone is celebrating your fifth birthday, and most importantly, your father thinks that now, you are matured enough to make use of this gift.”
“I understand, I am curious to see what father has prepared for me.” Dhruv said in an excited voice.
After a while, they entered the palace hall, the emperor was sitting on the throne and no one else was present in the hall. It was prince’s birthday, but it was also the day he lost his wife, so every year on this day, the emperor would take break from his duties and spend time with his son and would also tell him about his mother. However, today, on prince’s fifth birthday, early in the morning, his father sent him to Kamsa to study. Dhruv was a smart kid and knew that his father must be planning something.
“So, father has prepared a birthday present for me.” Dhruv thought and a smile appeared on his face.
With the support of his servant, Kamsa climbed up the stairs and took a seat next to the emperor. Dhruv bowed his head and said: “Prince Dhruv greets the emperor of Sloka Emperor.”
Emperor smiled then said: “Raise your head prince, you don’t need to be formal today. Do you know why I have summoned you here?”
“Grandpa Kamsa has told me that you have prepared a birthday present for me.” Dhruv said in a sweet and pleasing voice.
“Correct, but before you see your present, I want to ask some questions, are you ready?” Emperor said in a commanding voice.
“Yes father!” Dhruv replied.
“Who are you?” The emperor asked.
“I am the prince of Sloka Empire, Dhruv Sloka.” Dhruv replied.
“What do you want to become when you grow up?” The emperor asked.
“I want to become the savior of Sloka Empire, I want to protect everyone and maintain peace.” Dhruv replied.
“What is the most important thing for you?” The emperor asked.
“It is the safety of the people of Sloka Empire.” Dhruv replied.
“Will you die for the people of Sloka Empire?” The emperor asked.
“I will happily die for the people of Sloka Empire!” Dhruv replied.
“Why do you care for the people of Sloka Empire?” The emperor asked.
“That’s because they love me.” Dhruv said then smiled.
“Good, very good, well done Kamsa, you have taught my son well, there is not one bit of arrogance in him, his answers come instantly showing his dedication, what a prodigy, a genius for his age.” The emperor thought and was surprised in his heart.
Although he knew that Dhruv had always been a very smart child, a curious prince who wanted to know about things and craved for knowledge. But somehow, he had become compassionate and kind as well, just like his mother. It was quite rare for a young prince to not get arrogant about his status but Dhruv was just five and already cared about people, even though he was not allowed to meet them due to safety reasons.
“Kamsa, how did you teach him, he is just five years old then how did he become so wise? The emperor leaned towards Kamsa and whispered.
“I have no idea Emperor Shan. He has always been smart and used to ask questions about politics, history, moral and social science, culture and many other things that most kids his age are generally unaware of, so I told you to ask him some questions to see for yourself.” Kamsa said and there was a proud look on his face. He knew that Dhruv was a genius but this was the first time that emperor witnessed it with his own eyes.
“Well, I am satisfied from your answers. You are indeed a genius, and I am convinced that one day, you will surely become the savior of Sloka Empire.” The emperor said.
“Thank you, father.” Dhruv said with a bright smile on his little face.
“But, as I can see from your answers, you simply disregard yourself and think only about the wellbeing of people, which is not good. You are our one and only savior, if we lose you, who will save us when the time comes?” The emperor asked in a strict voice.
“My duty as a savior is to protect everyone, if I die in the process, it can only mean I was destined to leave the job to the next savior.” Dhruv said.
The emperor was shocked from his answer! Prince Dhruv was just five years old and was not afraid to die? And he was even talking about leaving the job to the next savior, which meant that he was still thinking about the wellbeing of people. Even Kamsa was surprised from prince’s response.
“I don’t want to lose my only son, you are my son first then the savior and prince of Sloka Empire. So, as your birthday present, I am going to give you a protector, your own guardian and this guardian will forever be with you and protect you!” The emperor said then smiled and carefully looked at Dhruv’s face, as if to see his reaction.
“My own guardian?” Dhruv asked in a surprised voice. He didn’t expect it and a surprised look appeared on his face, but in a moment, a smile appeared on his face.
Dhruv was not allowed to leave the palace and he was not allowed to talk to the servants or soldiers. He just used to talk to his father, Kamsa and the old maid, other than that, he was completely isolated from everyone, but now, he was going to get a guardian who would stay with him forever.
“Yes and you will be surprised to know that your guardian is already present in this hall. Ha ha.” The emperor laughed and said.
Dhruv immediately started to curiously look around but didn’t see anyone.
“Are you perhaps talking about Grandpa Kamsa?” Dhruv asked in a surprised tone.
“Ha ha. Prince Dhruv, this old man is not worthy to be your protector.” Kamsa laughed loudly and said.
“Turn back, your guardian has been standing behind you all this time and seems to be curiously listening to your answers.” The emperor said.
Dhruv immediately turned back and saw a girl clad in a black tight dress standing close to him. She also appeared to be five years old, had a cute little face with beautiful carved facial features, and at this time, she was curiously looking at Dhruv.
“Let me do the introduction. She is named Rohini, the daughter of Kunia clan’s head, today is her birthday as well, which means you two were born on the same day, we decided to make her your guardian.” The emperor said.
Dhruv was surprised for a moment and seemed to be thinking of something then stepped forward, gently lowered his head and said: “It’s nice to meet you Rohini, my name is Dhruv. I wish you a very happy birthday!”
Rohini was startled and couldn’t say anything, there was nervous look on her face, after all she was very nervous standing in front of the emperor of Sloka Empire.
“Prince Dhruv, she is scared of the emperor, he has been interrogating her for the last six hours. Ha ha.” Kamsa laughed and said.
“Of course I did, until I was absolutely sure that she is worthy to be my son’s guardian, I would never have approved of her.” The emperor said in a strict voice.
“Father, I thank you for this birthday present, I am very happy to have Rohini as my guardian, but we should not scare this little lady anymore, allow me to take her to the royal garden and show its beauty.” Dhruv had noticed that Rohini was nervous and decided to take her to the garden and help her calm down. He also had a lot of questions to ask from her that he couldn’t ask in front of his father.
The emperor noticed his son’s intentions and said: “Very well, take her to the royal garden.”
Dhruv suddenly held her hand and ran outside the palace hall along with her. The emperor smiled and continued to gaze at this adorable scene of two five year olds, holding hands and running outside the palace hall.
“What do you think Kamsa?” The emperor asked.
“Their destinies have already been written by the stars, all we can do is to wait and see.” Kamsa smiled and said.
